Once a longstanding pillar of the repertoire, Gounod’s Faust is something of a rarity on the international operatic stage these days. This production features a cast made up of some of opera’s biggest stars, with the added bonus of the ballet being restored in Act 5. Romeo et Juliette is the only other of his 12 operas surviving today. Charles Gounod (1818-93) 1st performance Paris, 1850.
