Opus Arte: OA1334D. Beethoven’s only opera, is an uplifting story of risk and triumph.

Fidelio has a long and complicated history of composition, receiving several revisions after it’s 1st performance in Vienna (1805). Changing the composition from 3 to 2 acts, Beethoven also composed no less than 4 overtures for it at various times. Traditionally Leonore No. 3 is now performed between the two scenes of the 2nd act. Other highlights include the famous Act I Quartet, the Prisoners’ Chorus and Florestan’s aria. A new production by Tobias Kratzer for the Royal Opera.
